Shoe manufacturing giant Clarks wanted to be sure they were getting accurate data from their suppliers around the world. We created a centralised management reporting system, simple enough to be used everywhere and by anyone, regardless of IT expertise. This new system gives management the information they need to negotiate better deals and discounts on raw materials to cut production costs and support ambitious growth plans.
Being the UK’s biggest shoe brand, and growing to become the fourth largest in the world, means a lot of shoes and some pretty hefty supply chain issues for Clarks. After all, if you don’t know exactly what your suppliers are doing how can you be sure you’re getting the best deal you can? With suppliers located around the world, and often experiencing inconsistent access to the internet, the information being passed back to head office could not always be relied on, and management found themselves manually analysing data presented in a variety of formats.
We developed a bespoke solution using Microsoft BizTalk Integration Services to make inputting data easier across the world. Each factory now has a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to complete and send to their regional head office. Each spreadsheet has been ‘locked down’ to ensure information can only be inputted in the correct format, to avoid inconsistencies spoiling the data. Microsoft BizTalk manages the validation of the inputted files and transforms the data so it can be used back at head office in Somerset to negotiate deals and prices.
The team at Clarks are now saving significant time and money previously spent analyzing data manually. And they know they can rely on the results to manage suppliers more effectively and negotiate better discounts on raw materials. That means production costs can be lowered, saving £millions and supporting the continued growth of the business.
