RCPCH PCO Case Study

The Challenge

Limited access to PCs and internet.

PCO (Paediatric Care Online) is a highly valuable resource, but because it’s online it was often unavailable to clinicians in situations at the point of care – just when they need help to diagnose and treat children quickly. Clinicians in busy hospitals don’t always have ready access to a PC, and internet connectivity is often limited.

Enabling faster diagnoses with mobile information access for clinicians

The Solution

We worked with over 30 PCO users to design, define and develop an offline-capable mobile app that would give clinicians fast and intuitive access to PCO on an Apple, Android or Windows phone.

The app contains the full PCO database for offline access, and syncs with the back-end, cloud-based PCO server when connected, ensuring information is up to date when clinicians use it.

The Outcome

Our innovative, cross-platform app means clinicians treating children now have instant access to clinically-assured guidance in the palm of their hand – wherever and whenever they need it.

And because we used Xamarin to develop the app once for all leading mobile platforms, RCPCH saved £40,000 in development costs – and got a vital, easy-to-use app in a very short timescale.
