Promoting talent from within supports success at Software Solved

Machine Learning Project

Being a technology-focused organisation in the South West, we find that recruitment can be a real challenge. In 2007 Software Solved established an undergraduate and graduate programme to not only attract talent but also provide a pathway to nurture and develop those wanting to move into the industry.

The programme has proven a great success and since being established has provided placements and roles for over 40 undergraduates and graduates.

There is no better reflection of the success of this programme than Tom Kington, who as of 1st September 2019 takes on the role of Lead Technical Consultant, the second most senior technical role within the company.

Tom first joined Software Solved in 2008 as an undergraduate and through his talent, drive and determination combined with the support of the Software Solved team, he has developed his skills and achieved his most recent promotion.

Tom Kington said;

“I’m really proud of my progression at Software Solved. Having started as an undergraduate to now reach this promotion shows just how important programmes of this type are and the opportunities they can bring.  Software Solved has always had a close-knit and friendly atmosphere, colleagues are always there to provide help and support and I have always felt valued.

 In such a fast-paced industry it is critical our skillset is kept up-to-date and during my time at Software Solved I have been given the time and opportunity to develop my skills seeing me move from technologies such a ASP.NET Web Forms and Visual Basic to newer technologies such as ASP.NET MVC, Azure and Xamarin.

 Lindsay Lucas, Managing Director said;

 “Attracting, retaining and most importantly promoting talent is a crucial part of not just a successful business, but creating a working environment that proactively encourages and supports personal development. The promotion of Tom to Lead Technical Consultant is a reflection of his passion, capability and hard work and our commitment to promoting talent from within.

 As a business based in the South West filling technical roles can be a challenge, there is a huge breadth of talent available, but it needs alternative recruitment strategies such as our programme, to provide compelling opportunities to the right people, at the right time. I’m passionate about encouraging more people to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and I would actively encourage anyone considering a career in technology to go for it. There is a community of thriving and successful tech businesses in the South West and we’re all looking for talented people to join us and create a career of their own.”
