At MSM Software Solved we love to get out and about to visit our clients. Not only is this fundamental to us fully understanding their business needs but we also get to experience first-hand how their IT systems impact the way they work.

So last week Tom and I switched our heels and brogues (you choose who wears the heels) for steel-capped safety boots and went off to visit our global transport and logistics client in Swindon.

All jokes aside, it was invaluable to see the reality behind the system we support. We were given a tour around their warehouse to understand how the end to end process worked from goods in, to packing through to despatch. This really brought to life the day to day pressures for the client and allowed us to see how integral the system was to their business.

The system manages all aspects of the warehouse including product flow, management of orders, stock reporting and job allocation. We learnt new terminology relevant to the business, observed on the shop floor and came away with a much better understanding of how their business processes interact with the system.

Not only do site visits put faces to names but they really help us to talk (and walk!) the talk when working on our client’s business critical systems.
