There’s no question that every business strives for project success. However, without effective project management, this may not be the reality.
Following on from our recent webinar, Managing a successful systems software project, we’ve compiled a handy guide that anybody involved in managing software systems projects can refer to.
What you’ll find in our Top Tips guide:
- The 5 phases of project management
- Project roles and responsibilities
- Keep stakeholders engaged
- Choose the right project methodology
- Managing risks, understanding cost, time and scope
The 5 phases of project management
Being organised and structured from the outset is an important part of project management. Using the 5 phases of project management provides a structured way to plan for each of the project stages.
Project roles and responsibilities
Ensuring that roles and responsibilities are defined and communicated will help to ensure that everyone knows what they are doing. Using a matrix such as RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed) can help set this out in a clear and easy to understand way.
Keep stakeholders engaged
It’s important to keep stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the project. This will help ensure that the project is progressing as planned and importantly remains fir for purpose. Some ways of keeping stakeholders engaged include:
- Regular communication and reporting
- Clickable demos
- Regular show and tell sessions
Choose the right project methodology
The two most common project methodologies are agile and waterfall. It’s important to choose the one (or a hybrid of the two) that works for your project.
Managing risks, understanding cost, time and scope
Being able to manage risk whilst understanding the project costs, timings and scope are important elements to successful projects.
